Creevy & District Community Co-operative Society Ltd. has evolved from a seedling basis into a community driven focused unit.

Our South Donegal group have embraced the term community spirit and nurtured it to produce a mature structure; Half way between Ballyshannon and Rossnowlagh, Creevy is known to locals, who spent many summers insanely throwing themselves off the pier in the frenzy of youth.

Our local group got together initially seeking to address the ravages of storms on the physical landscape but rapidly realised that they shared an interest in retaining the identity and ownership of our scenic area. By 1996 our subtle and inclusive approach had secured land and assets. 1997 also saw the securing of funding via the International Fund for Ireland and Leader II. As the year ended we were drawing up our business plan.

It was this plan which was to be focused upon at the Leader II award ceremony when we received an innovative award. That plan outlined how we would build and run our unique cottages: how sea angling would be developed with a boat to be acquired and shore angling to be facilitated and how a shore walk would be established.

Achieving this aim was not aspirational. Two shore walks are now established, with both eventually allowing walkers to make their way directly along the shoreline from Ballyshannon to Rossnowlagh.

Visitors to Creevy in recent years will have noticed the re-constructed cottages. The development of the buildings achieved the preservation of the previous cottages as the stones from the knocked down buildings are used to cleverly cover the new ones.

In Creevy Co-op we can see our future. We know its shape. With our particular brand of vision we intend building a boathouse which will incorporate an office complex - units to be filled in a variety of community driven ways,
to pursue deep sea diving, and further improve access to shore angling. The inclusiveness of our vision has meant that our cottages have disability access, as well as dedicated separate washing/drying facilities. Aware of what we can offer, we now want to share it.
